Who we are
The women in this family taught it how to cook, and none of them wrote it down for anyone else to use.
My mother, Gloria Glusman, is Cookie to her grandchildren.
My grandmother Oma was born Anna Starkand in Bochum, Germany, and grew up in Frankfurt. She came to America with a young son — my father, Fred — and the family settled in Nashville in the mid-1940s, where my grandfather became a leader in the Jewish community: cantor, educator, shochet, mohel, and music teacher. Oma's recipes are German, with a nod to the culture she settled into.
My other grandmother, Rose Miller Tunkle — later Rose Marlin — was MeeMaw to some grandkids and NaNaw to others. She was born in Rome, in north Georgia, to Lithuanian and Polish immigrants, and cooked southern home cooking with old country sensibilities mixed in. She ran two restaurants over the years: Tunkle's Grill in Birmingham, then Marlin's Delicatessen in Huntsville.
My wife Florie's grandmother was Bobe to the family — pronounced Bubbe — and Bobe Rosa to the grandkids. She was born in Cuba to Polish-Cuban immigrants, and her recipes carry both sides of that: dishes from the old country next to Cuban ones, plus a few she made entirely her own.
Their recipes are why this site exists. Everyone else's are welcome here too.
Why this exists
A recipe that only lives in someone's memory doesn't survive a move, a spill, or a generation. A site does — as long as someone keeps adding to it.
The goal here is not a polished cookbook. It's a running record: who made what, what they changed about it over the years, and what they'd tell you if you were standing in their kitchen. Typed recipes sit next to photographed cards. Nothing needs to be perfect before it goes up.

The structure behind this page — categories, search, a card for each recipe, room for the story behind it — isn't specific to one family. If yours wants a version of this for your own recipe box, the setup here is meant to be copied, not guarded.
